ThinkInAzul

Spain. 2022 – 2025

Funded by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme as part of the Spanish government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, ThinkInAzul is a research and innovation strategy to protect marine ecosystems from pollution and the effects of climate change, and to address the challenges of sustainable aquaculture, fisheries, and tourism.

It brings together seven autonomous communities (Andalusia, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Cantabria, Valencia, Galicia, and Murcia) with the commitment to integrate and strengthen research in these regions, while promoting a network of centres of excellence to collaborate on challenges in marine research, aquaculture, and blue economy initiatives.

The main objectives of the project are:

  • Monitor the ocean to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change by developing observation platforms and strategies, using new technologies for monitoring and data collection, and strengthening the resilience of the marine ecosystem.
  • Technological adaptation of aquaculture and fisheries to climate change and its mitigation will contribute to smarter and more precise aquaculture and fisheries.
  • Sustainable promotion of the blue economy through innovation and localisation of opportunities, particularly in areas such as transport and maritime tourism, with the participation and cooperation of the various social, educational, and economic agents.
